The saying “AS ABOVE, SO BELOW” means that what happens in the sky or universe (above) is
connected to what happens on Earth or in our lives (below). It’s like saying that the big world out there
and our smaller, personal world inside us are mirrors of each other. (Found in the second verse of the
Emerald Tablet, a short Hermetic text which first appeared in an Arabic source from the late eighth or
early ninth century.)
AS WITHIN, SO WITHOUT
I will start by saying that the Anishinaabe does not believe in a hierarchy level of Creation. It’s all about
the different Planes of Existence that is within and all around us. This can be seen when using we lift our
ceremonial pipe known as the Sacred Calumet. It serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness of all
living beings and the importance of harmony within the community. The shared experience of smoking
the pipe fosters a sense of spiritual connection and collective consciousness.
The saying, as within, so without, is often used to describe the relationship between the inner and outer
worlds. It is a reminder that what we put out into the world reflects what is going on inside of us.
As for being human, there are many layers to one individual. Including our problems. We see ourselves
as oneself only or see themselves outside of themselves. Problems. They therefore will fail over again
and again. Why? They see these problems as outside of themselves. We are not outside or beyond or in
a higher place. All planes of existence are within us. We are Creators (from our limited human
perspectives).
If we want to change our external circumstances, problems, we must first change our internal state.
As within, so without is a phrase that refers to the relationship between our inner and outer worlds.
It means that what we experience in life is influenced by our internal state of being. If we want to
change our external circumstances, then it starts with changing ourselves first!
This concept has to do with the idea that there is a universal law that governs everything in the universe.
This law states that what happens on one plane of reality is also reflected on all other planes of
existence.
So, for example, if we want to change our physical health, we must first change our thoughts and
emotions. 90% of the healing comes from within. The first step is to understand that everything starts
with our inner being and manifests outwardly from there!
The same goes for our relationships: we must change ourselves if we want to improve them.
This concept can also apply in other ways too, not just within personal development but also across
society! For example, if we want our world to be more peaceful, then it starts with being peaceful within
ourselves first.
It means we are all interconnected, and what happens on one plane of existence of reality always
impacts somewhere else.
We are the Centre of thew Universe.
